  1. Sorry, I meant to ask you; exactly what is the distinction between a postmillenial view that is or is not preterist? If I understand correctly, Boettner was a postmil but not a preterist and I’m a little confused about how this works.

  2. Jonathan, this is a complicated question. Of course, there are easy answers like postmillenialism and partial-preterism do not necessarily go hand in hand, but it goes far beyond that. In the Kenneth Gentry vs. Richard Gaffin debate, Gaffin attempts to trace the origins of postmil thought in Reformed history. I don’t think he did justice to it. But we can be sure that what the Puritans held is not the same as what the modern theonomic movement holds. The Puritans believed in the Biblical view of victory in time and space, but some of them dismissed the Olivet Discourse and the book of Revelation as a form of historicist interpretation (something similar to what Rushdoony held to). Other Puritans however, saw a strong connection with the events preceding the destruction of Jerusalem.
From what I remember both Boettner and Warfield took a preterist view of Matthew 24, but were a bit unclear about Revelation.
Nowadays, I find it hard to deny preterism. In fact, preterism is catching on in methodists, arminians (Haneggraaf) and Anglicans (N.T. Wright).Preterism will be the greatest force to consistently oppose dispensationalism in the decades to come.

  3. Uri! I have not talked to you in a while, but I wanted to say hello. I hope you rememer me, seeing as we used to talk in kerygma in mirc, when all those things happened to me. I just wanted to wish you a (belated) Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I also wanted to let you know that I am not pursuing theology any longer, as I am called to the Medical field. I also have picked up Cagefighting/Mixed Martial Arts and want to start practicing Gracie-style Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (I got all the way up to 220 pounds with a 40 inch waist in January, but I am down to 170 with a 32 inch waist. I want to get down to 150 or 155). Are you familiar with BJJ? Royce Gracie was one bad dude! So is Renato Sobral, also from Bazil. But the greatest is Anderson Silva, from Brazil. I love it, man!

Anyway, I was wondering if you still had instant messanger or anything? I would love to catch up, man. Take care and the Lord bless you and your family. -D.P.
