The Bible gives us one ritual to do consistently in the New Covenant: The Lord’s Supper. On this evening, we do what our Lord taught us once more. We dine with the King of glory, just as his disciples dined with him.
Today we re-live the Maundy Thursday narrative by eating and drinking with Jesus, even as He gives us a New Commandment. But this is not just a re-living of a past event, it is a glorified continuation of a past event in a new creation. The Lord’s Supper is an event that points us to our Lord’s death, but also to His coming again at the end of history to dine with all His renewed creation.
Prayer: Teach us to love one another, our Lord and Christ, even as you loved us. Amen.
