My friend Bill Dejong observes that circumcision and baptism are death rites. Both speak of the death of the recipient. One in language of putting off the body of sin, as Paul alludes to in Colossians 2:11, and the other by being buried with Christ.
Circumcision and baptism are rites of death. One needs to die first before he can be made new.
