It seems to move from the potential validity of a just war theory to an explicit pacifism within a Christian perspective. Although we pray that the government would wage war with prudence, I certainly agree with one of the latter statements: “Christianity cancels the laws of retaliation…[it] is the remedy for all human woes.” Our oneness with Christ seems to obligate that higher standard within the Gospel mission.
Indeed Daniel. I think Laurence makes excellent points. His position is the same as Ron Paul’s, that is, war is only justified for self-defense and that we have no right in policing the world. It may be considered a pacifist position since it distances itself from world wars, but it is not in the sense that self-defense is legitimate and Just war principles are also legitimate reasons, but truthfully, few wars strictly follow the Just War Principles. You and I have a lot more in common than you may think.
