At the heart of the story of Samson is a missional life. Samson’s mission began in his mother’s womb. He was called to trust in his God from his earliest days. His task was filled with sacrificial acts. Samson dies again and again for the sake of Israel, and in the end, he ultimately gives his life for his people.
In like manner, the life of the church is the life of death. We are to die for one another in and through deeds of mercy and grace. When was the last time you encouraged someone? When was the last time you called someone simply to say you cared about them? When was the last time your faith bore real tangible fruit in this congregation? Before we enter into our call to worship, the greatest gift and encouragement you can give your neighbor on this day is to worship with heart and soul; to join with loud voices. Worship is communal. Worship is missional. This is our calling.
Let us pray: We praise you, Most Gracious God, for calling us to lift up our hearts to you. Bless, strengthen, encourage, and commission your people to fulfill your mission, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
