I have been reading through Mark Jones’ Knowing Christ published by The Banner of Truth Trust. It has been a marvelous display of good scholarship. Throughout, Jones focuses on one aspect of Christ’s ministry and person. Chapter two concludes with this beautiful exhortation from Samuel Rutherford on the pursuit of Christ:
I counsel you to think highly of Christ, and of free, free grace, more than you did before…Oh, his weight, his worth, his sweetness, his overpassing beauty. Oh, that I could come near to kiss his feet, to hear his voice, to feel the smell of his ointments! But oh, alas, I have little, little of him! Yet I long for more.
