Yahweh and Jehovah’s Witnesses

A quick argument against Jehovah’s Witnesses is offered by Peter Leithart:

Jesus is called “Savior.” Yet, Isaiah insists that only Yahweh is Savior (43:3, 11, 15). Therefore, Jesus is Yahweh. (This might be especially effective since Isaiah 43:10 is one of the JW’s most beloved texts.)

  1. Not a lot of thought put into your argument. Jehovah and Jesus are two different persons. In fact, Jesus name means “Jehovah Is Salvation”. That is how Jehovah, who was the God of Israel, was their saviour. It is Jehovah who’s sovereignty was challenged by Satan, not Jesus. Satan never challenged Jehovah’s power, just his right to rule over mankind.

This being the case, it was Jeus who Satan tempted there times and not Jehovah. Think about it. How could Satan tempt his creator, the one who’s right to rule and sovereignty he challenged? Additionally, Jesus was killed by Satan through humans agent. Jehovah has never died. Therefore, how could Jesus be Jehovah.
