James Jordan on Paedocommunion

I have finally finished listening to Jordan’s four lectures on paedocommunion. Though my notes are not extensive and far from complete, here they are attached. They will serve at least to get a better perspective on the arguments for paedocommunion. In order to purchase Jordan’s four lectures on mp3, click here.

  1. The best PC story is when Rob Rayburn Jr. was on the PCA study committee. He entered the committee a little unsure, thinking that surely the best and brightest of the denomination would be able to show him where PC was unbiblical. After the committee finishes, he says, “There are no arguments against paedocommunion.”

  2. Steven, I still have not read the PCA report on paedocomunion, though I intend to soon. What did you think of Jordan’s notes? To me, Rayburn’s comments says it all.

  3. I think Jordan gives as good a treatment on the subject as you will find. He was one of the first guys that got me thinking in this direction, though it was ultimately Jeff Meyers’ exegesis of 1 Cor. 11 that pushed me over.

Gary North has a funny which I put up here: http://www.xanga.com/vanwedgeworth/574388996/the-excommunication-of-ronald-reagan.html

Biblically speaking, 1 Cor. 11 is the only hurdle, and once we see that it comes after chapter 10 and before chapter 12, then the point becomes undeniably clear.

Systematically and psychologically, the case becomes even more securely in favor of paedocom. Participating in the Lord’s Supper is not a magic ingestion of “stuff,” but rather a vital part of the family identity. The table is the center of the community in many ways, and sharing a meal with someone is often one of the best ways of sharing yourself with them. This is probably why 98% of all the dates you take a girl on will involve a meal.

And so paedocommunion becomes a question of what the Church is and who Jesus is married to. Paedocommunion becomes a liturgical illustration of the gospel.
