Why must we continue the practice of Lent?

Schememann writes in the Great Lent:

It is a school of repentance to which every Christian must go to deepen his faith, to re-evaluate, and, if possible, to change his life. It is a wonderful pilgrimage to the very sources of Orthodox faith-a re-discovery of the Orthodox way of life.

  1. Indeed.

For some reason, Uri, the thought was in my mind that you were one of the Reformed folks who rejected the Christian calender and liturgical year. I must have had you mixed up with someone else.

    Hope you are well!

  2. Hey Jake,
No you must be thinking of someone else. I have been “lenting” for over three years. Last year I even went to an anglo/catholic church to receive ashes on my forehead..shhhhhhh!
You must have me mixed up with some angry Puritan, who did not like me at RTs. Three names come to mind…alas, blessings to you brother.
How much longer do you have?

  3. Actually I don’t think it was someone at RTS, someone I know from somewhere else. But anyway…your secret is safe with me. 😉

This past semester I took a 30 hr/week job just to help us out financially a bit, and so did a pretty light course load. I’m back to full time now, and aim to graduate spring of ’10.
